Dog Waste Bags

Following a suggestion from a resident, the Parish Council now stocks dog waste bags, the Envirobag. They do decompose and so are environmentally friendly. They come in packs of 20 and are free from the office. If you can’t get to the office to pick some up then let me know.

Queniborough Wind Farm

Following the public consultation session at the school on November 13th, a number of village residents came to the Parish Council meeting on November 19th. to give their views on the scheme. The Council then debated the issue and decided that it is very supportive of renewable and green energy but that this scheme is too close to the village and that it will oppose the scheme. The Council will now start to collect information so that it can make a detailed case should the proposal move to a formal planning application. The Council understands that it will be in April if the company decides to move forward with the scheme.

The Parish Council is very grateful to the residents who came to the meeting to let the Council know what they think. It appreciates that there will be a wide range of opinions in the village and would welcome other residents letting the Council know what they think. You can contact the Council by phone, email or at the office and all comments I receive from residents are passed to Councillors at every full Council meeting.

Following comments from residents about traffic calming in the village, the Parish Council has decided to ask the County Council to carry out a review of the scheme and how it is working. When we have a date for this to be discussed at a Council meeting I will put a notice in the Gazette. If you have any views on the scheme you wish to let the Council know of then please contact me by phone, email, letter or at the office.

Allotments

The Council is again looking into the possibility of providing allotments in the village. A few years ago a search for suitable land had not been successful but Councillors decided it was time to try again, especially as we know there are long waiting lists for allotments in Syston and Rearsby. If anyone has any suggestions on land that may be able to be used then the please contact the Clerk so that the Council can consider it.

Traffic calming noise

The Parish Council has received complaints from residents about the noise caused by the traffic calming scheme in Rearsby Road. The clatter of vehicles with trailers and small vans seem to cause the most noise. The Parish Council and our County Councillor are trying to see if any thing can be done to reduce this. Perhaps in the meantime any residents driving these type of vehicles could take extra care when driving over these speed cushions.

The Government Office for the East Midlands has been consulting on the East Midlands Regional Plan. This proposes how the East Midlands will be developed up to 2021. It covers all aspects of development including transport, housing, economic regeneration etc. Consultation closed on 17th October. The Parish Council is concerned about the plan and although the village may not be directly affected it is worried about the amount of development that is being planned around the area. The Council has made its own submission under the consultation process and to see a copy of the letter click on the link below. The plans can be seen at our Parish Office or you can see them on the Government Office for the East Midlands web site www.gos.gov.uk/goem.

Hamilton / Thurmaston Housing

At the PC meeting on the 17/10/07 Mike Preston gave a brief update on the borough 'local design framework'.

Specific concern was again raised about the impact of the proposed expansion to Hamilton & Thurmaston. The potential impact of the new development, increased traffic and the route of any new road infrastructure to Queniborough is of particular concern.

Clicking here will take you to Charnwood Borough Council's WWW detailing the proposed strategy and the output from public consultation so far.

As more information becomes available, particularly the timetable for approval / planning and public consultation we will publicise on the parish WWW.

Village Design Statement Update

The Queniborough village design statement is currently in its final draft. We are hoping to submit the document by Christmas.

The Village Design Statement (VDS) is a document, produced by the residents in consultation with planners, which provides guidelines to developers on what they can and cannot do to a village. Its purpose is to help control development so that the village's essential character can remain.

Once the document is issued we will make it available on the parish www for everyone to view!
